Cebu’s most prominent person is President Sergio Osmeña, the fourth president of the Philippines after the Japanese-sponsored presidency of Jose P. Laurel but succeeding Manuel L. Quezon’s term in the Commonwealth of the Philippines. He is also the patriarch of the powerful Osmeña clan which counts in its roster several politicians including three Senators. In his honor, the Fuente Osmeña Circle, a fountain contained in a rotunda park in Cebu City was named after him. The circle is a centerpiece landmark of the city and the site of numerous festivals and rallies.
