Boredom consumes my being. My room isn’t huge enough for me to roam around. So I feast my eyes around the four corners of my abode and seen my collection of DVDs neatly filed in a corner near my door. Like a scavenger I suddenly and search for some possible interesting movies to watch. Voila! I found SURF’s UP. Though I’ve watched this in the past yet I don’t mind watching it again for the 3rd time.
So the story goes. Surf’s up talks about life’s struggle – from falling in love to friendship . To winning and defeat and most of all finding yourself. Cody a budding surfer who took his inspiration from the legendary surfer Big Z. Cody is having some challenges achieving his goal since her family doesn’t show him any support. This is the common problem with some growing up kids that sometimes they turn into rebellion to get their parent’s approval or support. If there is someone in the family who should believe in their son’s talents or capacity it should be his/her parents.
When the search is on for the 10th Big Z Surf Challenge, Cody was spotted by a talent scout. And that’s the start of his journey in the big waves of the island. Along the journey he found a good friend – a chicken who shares a common thing with Cody. They both don’t know who their father were. And that binds them together to a better friendship.
On the other hand, Cody fall in love with Lanie – the life guard of the island who saved his life when he was eaten by the big waves and a sea urchin hit his feet. She then brought him into her uncle’s small house to for medication. When he was well the geek, Lanie’s uncle, showed him the way towards the island where the challenged will be held. While the contest is nearing, Cody’s friend is desperately looking for him because he has been away for days. While being with the geek Cody discovered that the geek is Big Z who is hiding for almost ten years. He then found out the Big Z was not dead but was hiding because he is afraid of showing up as a loser, thus he preferred to hide from his fans and believers.
To make the long story short, Tank the 9th times defending champion didn’t win the challenge but it was Cody’s friend – the chicken. Cody’s gave up the title for his friend – a truly brilliant sign of true friendship.
The moral lesson of the movie: Proud people are to be humbled. Title or winning is not all that matters it’s how you play the game. And lastly you don’t need to follow someone’s path to be successful. His ways to success might be very different to yours so better find your own ways. Though you can draw inspirations from his stories.
